How much sod comes on a pallet?

Accepted Answer

Fescue and Bermuda are cut by the roll — one roll covers 9 square feet (1 square yard), and there are 70 rolls per pallet, covering 630 square feet total. Zoysia is cut by the slab — one slab covers 2.66 square feet, and a pallet covers 400 square feet. When estimating your order, measure your area in square feet and add 5–10% for cuts and waste.

How do I calculate how much sod I need?

Can I pick up sod directly from the farm?

Which variety is right for my lawn?

It depends on your site conditions — sun exposure, traffic, soil type, and how much maintenance you want to do. Fescue is the most versatile choice for mid-Atlantic lawns. Bermuda varieties are best for full-sun, high-traffic sites. Zoysia is ideal if you want a low-maintenance, dense turf. When in doubt, give us a call and we'll help you decide.

What varieties do you grow?

We grow five varieties: Fescue, Bermuda Latitude 36, Bermuda North Bridge, Zoysia Meyer, and Zoysia Zenith. All are selected specifically for mid-Atlantic climates and grown on our own farm.

Question 8

How do I prepare my yard before sod arrives?

Remove existing vegetation, till the soil 4–6 inches deep, grade for proper drainage (slope away from structures), and apply a starter fertilizer. The better your prep, the faster your sod will root.

How soon after delivery should I install the sod?

Accepted Answer

Install as soon as possible — ideally the same day. Sod is a living product and begins to deteriorate once cut. If you can't install immediately, keep it in a shaded area and lightly mist it to prevent drying out.

How much should I water new sod?

Water immediately after installation, then keep the sod and the top 2 inches of soil consistently moist for the first two weeks. After that, gradually reduce frequency and water more deeply to encourage deep root growth.

When can I mow new sod?

Wait until the sod is firmly rooted — typically 2–3 weeks after installation. You'll know it's ready when you can't easily lift a corner. Mow at the recommended height for your variety and never remove more than one-third of the blade at once.
